| We have dedicated April 1, 2007 as Breast Implant Survivors Day
I had saline filled silicone breast implants for 8 years. Within the first 5 years, I became totally disabled. I have been diagnosed with silicone poisoning, figromyalgia, chronic Epstein Barr, chronic fatigue syndrome, atypical MS (multiple sclerosis), peripheral neuropathy, and raynauds syndrome. Prior to implantation, I was a picture of health. Now daily life is a struggle. The first 3 years, the doctors felt that the unusual symptoms I was having were unrelated to the implants, but at the same time , could not explain why I was having such complex problems, and was so very ill. After doing much research on my own, I knew that it was the implants making me so ill, so I planned my explant. Once removed they were examined, and analyzed by a Bio-Chemist. What he found, were leaky valves that caused a bi-directional flow of fluids causing an overgrowth of fungus and bacteria within the implant. Because of the faulty valves, the fungus and bacteria leaked into my breast tissue causing a severe infection in my breast, and a systemic infection in my entire body. I have since spoken with literally thousands of women that are having the same horrible experiences and illnesses as I have had, many of which have had babies born with the same illnesses. I am hoping that " Breast Implant Awareness Day" will not only help raise awareness to the many families that are affected by silicone but be a new beginning for much needed research into the diseases caused by it, and ultimately a cure. I thank you for your time and help in finding this cure. Please visit our Breast Implant Support Forum.
